BIRTHDAY PARTIES
Scared Because It’s Spooky Season?
My musings…
Happy October (a few days late as I was traveling to NYC for business)! It is officially fall and cooler weather is starting to roll in…although in South Florida “cooler weather” means 88 degrees instead of 99.
This past month has been exciting for us at The Gardens of Weber Manor. Mike and I were able to secure funding (if you’re interested in the business aspect of the venue, I’m happy to chat with you about it), which is allowing us to incorporate many new additions into the venue.
I will highlight our current projects below, but first I wanted to share some thoughts regarding our journey so far.
While we’re shoulder-deep in remarkable updates to the space, we’re in that “scary” time of the cycle, where we’ve poured a lot of energy and resources into our business but are not yet officially open. The enthusiasm I feel for the space we’re creating is juxtaposed with the irrational yet normal fears that come with starting a new endeavor.
There are days when I look at other gorgeous venues and think, “How will we ever compete with them?” There are moments where I stare at our mountain of to-dos and think, “Why aren’t there more hours in the day?! Can’t we speed these projects up? Did we take on too much too soon?” I worry we’re behind where we should be. And I let doubts creep in every now and then: “What if nobody likes what we’ve built?”
I recently read an article that helped me to reel in these worries. The gist of the article is that millennials are constantly stressed because they’re trying to have it all (the high-paying job, the lucrative side-hustle, the family, the travel, the daily exercise, the lifestyle…) and have it all by yesterday.
While the article doesn’t showcase novel arguments, it was refreshing to read these reminders at a time when I’ve felt overwhelmed. It’s impossible to do everything at once. Even though the internet provides immediate results and demands instant gratification, our physical world doesn’t generally function that way.

Good things take time, and I’d like to think we’re building something good here.
When I take pauses from the grind and stroll through the space we’ve built to date, the giant oak trees embody the sentiment that good things don’t come fast or easy. While the fishtails that define the perimeter of our space have much room to grow, I have enjoyed seeing them fill out over the past five months.
Wanting so badly for the venue to be up and running isn’t going to change the fact that plants take time to grow and projects take time to develop. Our vision has changed numerous times over from our original thoughts and it will probably morph many more times as we continue this journey.
If you have felt stressed lately, I hope you, too, will find solace in realizing that these mature trees also started out in a very different spot.
Updates for TheGoWM…
September felt like a slow month for us at The Gardens of Weber Manor, but looking back at everything we did, I feel as though we accomplished quite a bit!
Last month we:
-
Put in 2,000 sq ft of natural-looking turf in front of the stables area. Goodbye rocky, weedy “grass”, hello smooth turf!
-
Finished construction on the one-bedroom side of the couple’s production suite.
-
Started converting the open clumpy field into our majestic garden space by laying approximately 200 yards of pavers to create winding paths through the area.
-
Got approximately 800 plants delivered to grow said garden. (Whoever knew there were so many types of bamboo?)
This month, we plan to:
-
Dig trenches to lay electrical lines and a water-efficient sprinkler system.
-
Furnish and decorate the one-bedroom side of the couple’s suite.
-
Finish renovations on the studio side of the suite.
-
Continue landscaping in all areas of the venue spaces.
-
Bring in gravel as connecting pathways between different areas of the venue.
-
Add in a concrete pad central to all hosting areas specifically for our catering partners.
-
Host our first-ever style shoot with some incredibly talented and generous vendors in the Miami area.

“You will find that most times you have a vision of what it is that you want to accomplish and that’s most important. It allows you to work backwards and make cuts and changes that will still reflect the overall outcome you wish to achieve. What good is splurging on one particular item if it doesn’t result in the overall outcome you were trying to create?
